Hanging out in Toronto's Avondale Area
Podcast
Avondale is a newly formed community of
condos and townhouses developed on the old vacant land bordering the north side of the 401
highway at Yonge Street, just below North York. Its kind of a private enclave of
high density condos consisting of two high rise towers by Menkes called Spectrum, two mid rise towers by Shane Baghai called
the Mansions of Avondale, two high-rise
towers by Tridel called Skymark, and a couple more towers by Shane
Baghai called the Residences of Avondale.
Shane Baghai also did some very impressive townhouses called The Carriage Homes of Avondale. There is
another cluster of stacked townhouses that Im not overly enthusiastic about as I
dont really like hollow wall construction stacked townhouses and these have
particularly small bedrooms but they are quite cost affordable.
The subway to downtown is just above Avondale at Sheppard Avenue just a short walk away.
The center of things in North York is
around Empress Walk which is a fair stroll from Avondale so driving is a consideration. If
you work in the north end of the city or are dependent on easy access to Torontos
highway network, Avondale offers an excellent location. Many of the Avondale developments
offer very impressive views of the cityscape of Toronto.
